Rant

Ok- my time to rant

Why do people charge those ridiculous shipping charges- I know that shipping a CD is $1.11 first class and maybe the packaging is $.25. So why do people charge $5 or $10 to ship a CD? I refuse to buy from anyone who charges this high.

Oh and another rant (not so much Ebay)- You cant sell video games anymore on Amazon- you have to be approved (and they state they are no longer approving anyone). What's next- not allowing you to sell Movie DVDs?

The only way that you can justify charging $5 to send a cd is if you are sending it priority mail.

But I know how you feel. What bothers me even more is that these sellers stay in business. Some poor smuck is actually paying $5 to $10 to have a cd shipped. Good job refusing to buy from these sellers.

People charge what the market will bear. It is called capitalism. Some people price their product well below cost and then make up the different with the shipping and handling. Charging $5 to ship something you can ship for $1.11 is taking into account the person's time to package the CD, and prepare it for shipping. This also explains why $.10 cents worth of potatoes becomes $1.50 french fries at McDonalds.

I charge $1 on top of each package I ship. That doesn't even cover the packing tape, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc. Sometimes one glass item such as a vase can use up to $8 in shipping materials. But I eat anything over that $1. Occasionally it's made up with book sales which are easy to wrap and ship.

You are a better person than I am. I include all of my costs in my price. I include a shipping and handling fee for my time, and I charge for the actual Priority mail shipping costs. I am NOT interested in losing money, nor am I willing to treat my ebay sales like a hobby. It is business.

Totally understood, Madame Blake. But sometimes you gotta sacrifice the Bishop to make the move to win. My lower costs gets a lot of repeat business... not saying you don't or couldn't. It just works for me so I let it ride as it is. Mind you, on bigger, heavier glass items I do up the fee for shipping to maybe $2.

There is a give and take though. On books they're easy to ship and don't take a lot of special packing. So I make money there... I also round the weight of item's shipping costs up a pound or so. That extra .50 to $1 helps cover costs.

It is absolutly right to charge higher price for p+p. HIGH p+p is the way forward to avoid ebay fees which are ridicoulus. Ebay can charge these fees because they are a monpoly.
